Bacon wrapped shrimp with cauliflower is a dish combining the flavors and textures of savory bacon, tender shrimp, and the mild, nutty taste of cauliflower. This dish can be served as an appetizer or a main course, and presents a balance of seafood and meat that satisfies a range of taste preferences. The contrast between the smoky, crispy bacon wrapped around the juicy, succulent shrimp offers a mouthwatering combination, while the cauliflower can be prepared in various ways, such as roasted, pureed, or riced, to complement the richness of the other two components.
The popularity of bacon-wrapped shrimp can be attributed to the American affinity for both seafood and bacon, and the trend of combining flavors in innovative ways. The addition of cauliflower provides a contemporary twist on the dish, acknowledging the increased interest in incorporating vegetables into various courses for both health benefits and the variety they offer in taste and presentation.
Preparing bacon-wrapped shrimp usually involves wrapping shrimp in bacon, securing with a toothpick, and either baking, grilling, or broiling until the bacon is crispy and the shrimp is cooked through. The cauliflower, depending on the desired preparation, may either be roasted to develop a deep, caramelized flavor; pureed into a smooth consistency to serve as a base; or riced and sautéed for a texture that mimics grains while keeping the dish low-carb.
This dish allows for creativity in seasoning, as various herbs and spices can be used to infuse the shrimp and cauliflower with different flavor profiles, from classic garlic and butter to bolder combinations like chipotle or Cajun spices.

Tips for making about Bacon Wrapped Shrimp with Cauliflower
- Preparation of the Ingredients: Ensure that the shrimp are deveined and the shells are removed, tails can be left on for a handle if so desired. The cauliflower should be cut into bite-sized florets to ensure even cooking.
- Seasoning: Lightly season the shrimp with flavors that complement both the seafood and the bacon. Common seasonings might include garlic powder, smoked paprika, or a pinch of cayenne for heat. The cauliflower can be tossed in olive oil with salt, pepper, and any herb of your choice—rosemary or thyme could offer a nice touch.
- Wrapping the Shrimp: Wrap a slice of bacon snugly around each shrimp, securing it with a toothpick if necessary. Be aware that bacon will shrink as it cooks, so it should be wrapped tightly but not so tight as to cut into the shrimp.
- Cooking: The bacon-wrapped shrimp can be cooked in a preheated oven at around 400 degrees Fahrenheit until the bacon is crispy. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, the cauliflower can be roasted as well on a separate tray, tossed in oil and seasonings, until it is tender and has a slightly golden-brown color, which could take about 25-30 minutes depending on size.
- Combining: Once both components are cooked, they can be served together. A drizzle of something acidic like lemon juice can lift the flavors, and a garnish of fresh parsley can add color and freshness.
- Sauce: Depending on your preference, a dipping sauce can be a great accompaniment, such as a simple aioli or a spicy remoulade sauce, to provide a creamy contrast to the dish’s crispiness.
